Dutch Hoogaars Sailing Ship Model, 20th Century
A detailed wooden model of a traditional Dutch Hoogaars, a distinctive flat-bottomed sailing vessel closely associated with the fishing communities of Zeeland.
Widely used throughout the 19th century for mussel and shrimp fishing, the Hoogaars was particularly suited to the shallow tidal waters of the Dutch coast. Its pointed bow, broad hull and characteristic leeboards reflect a practical design shaped by generations of maritime tradition.
Carefully constructed with a wooden hull, stitched fabric sails, intricate rigging and detailed deck fittings. The weathered sails, original painted surfaces and gentle traces of age lend the model a particularly appealing character.
